At a General Court holden at the Society's Office Trafalgar Square, Charing Cross on Wednesday the 11th day of January 1860. Benjamin Bond Cabbell Esqre. Y.P. in the chair

It was Resolved Unanimously

That the courage and humanity displayed by Robert Dowling in having on the night of the 7th July 1859 plunged into the canal at Portobello near Dublin and swam to the relief of two youths who had accidentally fallen therein and whose lives he saved assisted by Thomas Coleman, calls forth the admiration of this court and justly entitles him to the Honorary Silver Medal of this Institution which is hereby awarded.

Presented to Robt Dowling by His Excellency the Earl of Carlisle, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, the 19th day March 1860.
